Car Questions

Hi, My name is Jose.

My question is: I have a 2004 PT cruiser 4lt engine with 140,000 miles. I smell a burnt smell coming from the engine and it seems to be related to oil smell? I also noticed some oil residue throughout engine but mostly on top near the oil cap and where there seems to be some sort of plugs on top. A friend said to me that it could be from over filling oil and spilling on to the engine and that's where the smell comes from.

Not sure what this my be? Your suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Jose

It is possible it could be from spilling oil on the engine but I suspect the vehicle may have oil leaks as well. These leaks typically come from seals and gaskets that leak over time. I suggest having a qualified technician formally inspect and diagnose your concern.
