Catylitic converter

I just bought a 2000 Chevy Impala from a dealership a day ago & while at the dealership, no problems showed. A few hours after I purchased the vehicle, the check engine light came on. I took it for a diagnostic test, which showed I need a catylitic converter &a transmission. is this a costly repair ?

It certainly can be and if that is the case, the repair costs may very well exceed the value of the vehicle. I suggest taking the vehicle back to where you purchased it and explain your findings. They should be willing to work with you towards resolution. .
