Pete: According to the owner's manual for my 2001 Suzuki Swift, the transmission fluid does not need to be changed when driving under normal conditions.  Under severe conditions, the maintenance interval is 51,000 miles.  Does this sound right to you?  Thank you.

While it doesn't sound right to me I verified it is the manufacturers recommendation. If you drive any combination of stop and go along with interstate driving I would use the severe table.

Pete, thank you. I just thought that ATF breaks down after a while and that 51,000 miles is an unusual maintenance interval.
