Peeps are produced by Just Born, a family-owned candy manufacturer located in Bethlehem, PA. Peeps first began when Just Born acquired the Rodda Candy Company in 1953. Rodda was known for their jelly bean technology, but also for a small line of marshmallow products. The Just Born folks used the marshmallow concept to begin making their first Easter Peeps. These were created by laboriously hand-squeezing marshmallow through pastry tubes and hand-painting the eyes.
Fast forward to modern times... Today the Just Born candy gurus are still the only game around when it comes to Peeps. They make more than 1 billion per year or 4 million per day. Peeps come in yellow, pink, white, orange, lavender (in 1995)
and blue (in 1998). During Easter, Peeps outsell jelly beans.
Newest products: Try their Peeps dipped in Chocolate and their Peepsters (bite-sized chocolate and marshmallow morsels).
