Shamrocks vs. Four leaf clovers

On the AAA Community page of the Mar/April issue (pg. 56), it is apparent that neither Adrienne Morgan nor her editor realize there is a difference between a shamrock and a four leaf clover. A shamrock has three leaves, symbolizes the Trinity and is also a symbol of Ireland. A four leaf clover has, you guessed it, four leaves, and is much more rare than a shamrock (roughly 1% of 1% of clovers; 1 four leaf for every 10,000 shamrocks). As stated on the page, the leaves of a four leaf clover stand for Faith, Hope, Love and Luck; much different than representing the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Re: Shamrocks

Thank you for your note, islaJim. You make a valid point. I know the piece was certainly not intended to offend. Adrienne's use of "Oh, Shamrocks!" was meant as a playful headline. I can understand how it may be misleading with the four-leaf clover content. Thanks for clarifying and for sharing with us here in the AAA Community!
